Currently we use the Rowland Reading "Superkids" program to introduce basic concepts of print and letter/sound awareness. Through the program, students have the opportunity to meet and learn through a cast of characters and interests. The series has two parts: “Meet the Superkids” and “The Superkids’ Club.” Each week, students will receive a new letter book that we will work on during class, and they will be sent home.
"My Math"
We use a math series called "My Math". This program has many hands-on tools to use with each lesson. Children will discover the world of math through sorting, classifying, patterning, measuring, and graphing. The children will practice counting, writing numbers, shapes, solid shapes, addition, and subtraction.
Religion
Each day the children will pray. We will work daily on respect for themselves and each other. During the first month or two, children will attend All School Masses once a month. After we have established our rules and routines, children will attend weekly mass on Thursday mornings, at 8:15am, with grades 1-4.
Social Studies, Science and Health
Children will learn about themselves, others, and the world around them. Real objects, pictures, and books are utilized to provide information and opportunities for children to explore and experiment. The children will study families, friendship, communities, colors, seasons, apple trees, fire safety, pumpkins, penguins/polar animals, dental health, the five senses, butterflies, and plants, to name a few.
